Absences
If you want someone else to collect your child, you must tell us beforehand. We will not let a child leave school with someone we do not know.
If your child is too unwell to come to school, please phone us before 9.00 – 0207 186 0081.
Term dates
Uniform
We play outside throughout the year whatever the weather. We provide appropriate clothing for the children to wear in all weathers.
School meals
You may be eligible for Free School Meals and are advised to apply.

Children can help themselves to fruit, milk and water throughout the nursery session.
The nursery is a nut free zone. Please help us to keep all the children safe by not allowing your child to bring sweets, crisps or other food into the nursery.
Payments
All 3-4 year olds are entitled to a free 15 hour nursery place. Working families may be eligible for a 30 hour free nursery place.

15 hours of free child-care for 2 year olds is available through 2 options.
Additional payments can be made for extra nursery sessions (depending on availability of places). Please contact the office for further information.
Safeguarding
The Governing Body and staff of Tachbrook Nursery School have a significant contribution to make to safeguarding children and promoting their welfare. All staff, have responsibilities and an active part to play in protecting our pupils from harm, promoting their welfare, identifying concerns early and providing help for children, to prevent concerns from escalating.
Tachbrook have 3 members of staff who are responsible for safeguarding & child protection. These are:

Medical
It is very important that we are kept informed about any health conditions, including allergies, and that you share medical advice with us. Please also keep us updated of any changes which may affect your child’s social, emotional and psychological well-being.
If your child has an accident or becomes unwell at nursery we will inform you.
Behaviour
Learning to behave appropriately in a group is a very important part of nursery education. Most children will sometimes find it hard to take turns and share; some children might take a while to learn how to solve disagreements through talk rather than hitting someone.
We help them to learn acceptable ways of expressing emotions and needs by:
- At all times acting with respect and courtesy ourselves
- Teaching children words they can use such as “Stop that. I don’t like it”
- Giving specific praise and attention to the behaviour we want
- Talking about each other’s feelings
- Helping them to make amends in meaningful ways if they have hurt someone else
You may have different methods at home but we ask you to support what we do at school because we have to consider the care and development of all the children here.

learning and teaching
Young children learn in a variety of ways: through experimenting, watching, practising, listening, talking, playing. They learn in a variety of social situations: alone, in pairs, in larger groups. Above all, they learn at their own pace, building on knowledge, understanding, skills and attitudes already developed.

Providing children with nutritious meals during the school day is vital for their health and wellbeing, and the council’s new online system makes applying for Free School Meals quicker and easier than ever.

Lunch
At Tachbrook all children who attend full-time eat lunch whilst at school. Children can either bring a packed lunch from home or choose to have a hot meal. They sit in ‘family style’ small groups of about 6-8 children and a meal supervisor. The meal supervisor will help your child eat their lunch and encourage your child to try and taste foods provided.
